Witchy eye : Flight of the serpent's daughter

Summary: Sarah Calhoun is fifteen, and the daughter of a famous Appalachee military hero - but that doesn't matter to Sarah. Possessing a natural talent for hexing and one bad eye, all she wants is to be left alone, especially by outsiders. But Sarah's fate calls, and a quest for her purpose will soon lead her across an American landscape strangely transformed. It begins at the Nashville Tobacco Fair. There, a Yankee wizard-priest tries to kidnap Sarah. She fights back with the aid of a mysterious monk named Thalanes. He is one of the not-quite-human Firstborn, the Moundbuilders of the Ohio - and he reveals to Sarah her arcane heritage. Now on a desperate quest with Thalanes to claim her birthright, Sarah is hunted by the Emperor of the New World's human dragoons, as well as by darker things - shapeshifting Mockers and undead Lazars. If Sarah cannot come to terms with her inheritance, it may mean the end to her, her family - and to the world where she is beginning to find her place. And if she does manage to do so, it will definitely lead to a dangerous confrontation with the Emperor of the New World and the revelation of a destiny Sarah could never have imagined.
