Kieran Finnegan, a therapist in a criminal psychologist's office, is thrown for a loop when a distraught woman calls her by name, thrusts a baby into her arms, and then is stabbed to death on the streets minutes later. Kieran knows she should stay out of it and let it be handled by the law, which includes her FBI Special Agent boyfriend Craig Frasier, but she can't help but be curious. So when she follows a lead to get more information and learns the stakes are huge, suddenly Kieran's involved whether she or Craig likes it or not. A compassionate, observant heroine who's something of a trouble magnet and a crack agent who has her back join forces to bring down a diabolical organization that preys on immigrants and still find time for love.
Copyright 2018 Library Journal.VERDICT Taut, complex, and leavened with humor, this riveting thriller has links to Graham's "Finnegan Connection" series. A shade more suspense than romance, it will appeal to fans of both genres. Graham (Out of the Darkness ) lives in Southern Florida. [See Prepub Alert, 10/15/17.] - PW Annex Reviews : Publishers Weekly Annex Reviews
Graham's latest outing featuring criminal psychologist Kieran Finnegan and FBI agent Craig Frasier is immediately entertaining and engrossing. Kieran is about to meet Craig at her family's downtown Manhattan pub, Finnegan's, when a frantic woman thrusts an infant into her arms, flees, and is murdered on the street moments later. Though Kieran tries to let the police, FBI, and other agencies take the lead in solving the case, her reputation for helping those in trouble draws informants to her like a magnet. Soon, she and Craig are trying to unravel a complex underground network that's been enslaving and victimizing women who came to the United States with immigrant dreams. Kieran and Craig sometimes go off in separate directions chasing leads, but Graham provides plenty of face time and intimate connection, all lightened with humor, to reassure and satisfy romance readers. Though part of a series, this installment stands well alone.
